Last month I had a 10 day work trip through Los Angeles, San Francisco, and then out to Washington D.C. While most of this time was running from place to place to finish work, I did.. have these flittering moments of nostalgia that I'd experience in the evening. I spent most of my young adulthood in San Francisco, and my 30's in Los Angeles. .. The build up of memories swirled around me while riding the various subways, and driving through the clogged arteries of traffic lanes through the night...
These cities, all held certain memories tied to music. Wether it was on the highway in the sub-smog-tropical paradise of Los Angeles, or in the rainy cold nights of downtown San Francisco, or... even way way back as an 8 year old child on an airplane circling the D.C. airport from Georgia.. listening to Tom Tom Club's "SubOceana" as we descended into the city... All of these cities held a lovely story tied to music.
It was here I decided to do a broadcast on all the music I found while walking in these cities in those 10 days. This mix is entitled UljanicKhannaDoane mix, as my friends Mike Uljanic out in LA, Nikki Khanna out in SF, and Todd Doane in DC were the best hosts in my excursions out in these places. Thank you all (and Tor Keeslar too!) for letting me stay with you. I hope you all enjoy this set.
