I headed out of town a few days ago back out to Chattanooga. It's about an hour and some change from Atlanta, and since being back while in the weird chaos of returning home, I have utilized this place as a refuge from it all.
From the age of 5 to 8 years old, I lived up on Signal Mountain. There are blurry memories that flood back into my head like the tingles of a phantom limb. Timberlinks, the spaceship house, the kudzu monster shaped like Godzilla, Dunsinane Rd, and school at Saint Augustine's and Scenic Land. It all seems like another place when I come back. .. as this city has changed so much in the past 30 years.
Chattanooga is like Athens, GA in the 1990's. It's chocked full of brilliant weirdos and vibrant artists. Nestled in the crest of the Appalachian Mountain range, this town is a blink of a place comparative to most cities...
...which it makes it far more magical than any other major city around it.
This is a collection of weird indie chill out that blurs into a bit of shoegaze and dreampop.
