Hello Audio Lovers,
I've been ping-ponging back and forth in-between Los Angeles and Las Vegas this month. It seems when the desert gets the best of me, a call from work will magically bring me back home... and I suddenly realize the importance of my stay out in the Mojave.
I think I've mentioned this before but I can't help but mention it again.. The city is janus faced. While out in the day time I feel incredibly defeated from the heat and the landscape.. and yet when the sun starts setting, the city automatically changes from a desolate landscape to this glittering bomb of lights that explode across the horizon. I've been taking drives out in the middle of the night just to see the lights.
It's incredible here.
But I find myself driving a lot, and mainly back home to LA... to which is.. very similar with last year when I lived in San Francisco. I've become familiar with the landscape,.. so much that my travels become these strange conversations with the landscape.. as if its someone I know. The workers out in Baker, Barstow, Hesperia, and Upland California have begun to recognize me by name. This was so similar to my drives from SF to CA in where I befriended the townsfolk out in the Dustbowl. .. And much like last year where I dedicated my sets to those places... this year I'm doing the same with the places out in the Mojave.
This set is called Zzyzx Rd, a place near Baker, California. It rests just west of the town, and carries nothing but an abandoned hot springs facility that now is monitored by the state government and the various desert universities of California's agriculture studies. Needless to say its quite a name and carries quite the history behind it. I decided to curate some tracks around my drives out in the desert, and I think you'll enjoy this session based off of airy chill wave and droned out ambient house.
